If you thought Tom Cruise‘s salty-tongued, overweight, hairy-knuckled super-producer character Les Grossman deserved more than a cameo in Ben Stiller‘s Tropic Thunder, and were impressed by his recent expletive-laden appearance at the MTV Movie Awards, you’re in luck.
Paramount Pictures announced, via tongue-in-cheek email statement, that it’s bringing a Grossman movie to the big screen, along with MTV Films.
Seen shakin’ booty with JLo and mentoring Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner on how to be appear more like tough dudes, Grossman was definitely a stand-out part of the June 6th MTV awards.
Stiller and Cruise will act as producers on the untitled movie and for a hint of what kind of story to expect, Stiller offered this: “Les Grossman’s life story is an inspiring tale of the classic human struggle to achieve greatness against all odds. He has assured me he plans to, quote, ‘F*****g kill the s**t out of this movie and make Citizen f*****g Kane look like a piece of crap home movie by the time we are done.’ I am honored to be working with him.”
Keeping the bit moving forward, when Grossman himself was asked what shape the screenplay was taking, he responded in his now-signature bombastic fashion: “To quote my great friend Kirk Lazarus, ‘I don’t read the script, the script reads me.’” For those who didn’t catch the reference, Lazarus was the eccentric, method actor played by Robert Downey Jr. in Tropic Thunder.
Even Paramount’s Film Group President Adam Goodman got in on the joke, saying, “Everything I learned in this business, I’ve learned from Les. I started out as his assistant, and from the first day he threw his desk at me when I got his lunch order wrong, I have loved him like a father. I am forever grateful to Ben and [producer] Stuart Cornfeld and their ability to secure his highly-coveted life rights.”
Apparently Tom Cruise is in talks to play Grossman on the big screen – duh – and Michael Bacall (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World) is set to pen the script.
